ABOUT US

Amorak is a New York State corporation in the process of aquiring non-for-profit status. Our goal is the provision of a safe, secure and nurturing environment for at-risk youth between the ages of 12 and 18.  The philosophy of Robert Brooks, PhD, who advocates reaching youth through building on their “islands of strength,” is at the heart of our mission.

We are developing programs for troubled and court identified youth to allow them to succeed both academically and socially, in order to become responsible and fulfilled adults. We start by reaching youth through their unique needs and strengths, and design programs that help them reach their goals.

Amorak has many creative programs including:

We are currently assessing our short and long term goals with the ultimate goal being a residential facility and school.

Our current short term goals are:

  • To reach youth who are court identified (eg: those needing to do community service hours), or are identified by schools, parents, or police as needing to be involved in structured activities to help them achieve their full potential.
  • Art and writing projects: these are often cited by stressed youth as effective calming methods. We will be modeling this program on ArtPeace, Inc. which has been very successful in Rochester, NY.
  • Horticultural and gardening programs: we are currently talking with the City of Glens Falls about the possibility of building a “Pocket Park” or gardening  project for kids to learn about designing gardens for wildlife (National Wildlife’s Backyard Habitat program), or to grow their own vegetables.

Amorak is currently looking to acquire a space, preferably in downtown Glens Falls, for kids to come to for programs in culinary arts, music and theatre, and longer term art programs, as well as entrepreneurial projects initiated by the kids themselves.
